Basement Remodel – Family Room

I have to apologize for the radio silence around these parts these past couple of weeks. As much as I would like to keep this little blog updated it just has not been possible. I’m not sure if I mentioned that we have a few things going on and one of them is remodeling  finishing our basement. It has been one of our to-dos for a few years now and we finally went ahead with it. It is a pretty big space with a bedroom, family room, bathroom and there is another area that will remain unfinished a bit longer. Kevin wants to add a wet bar in that space and a storage room.

I had no idea how much planning, work and funds it takes to take on finishing a basement. I wanted to get someone to do it all but I think I’ve mentioned before that Kevin is pretty handy and frugal and prefers to do as much work as possible. This helped off-set some of the costs. We did not hire one contractor rather separate ones that specialized in a specific area, e.g., electrical, hvac, drywall, plumbing. I am sharing a video below that is the before stage which is a bit long but wanted you to see the floor plan or the mess. We are excited to share updates as they happen and here is a vision board for the family room space. I want to split the area into two entertaining spaces and I will share my vision board for that space in an upcoming post. I haven’t had to do anything thus far and we’re getting close to finishing and thought I should start thinking about what I’d like the space to look like. Our basement is below ground so lighting is very important and I’d like to keep the room bright and airy with white walls and grays, blues and neutral accents.

Here is the video and let me apologize for the annoying sound of my slippers! 🙁

Oh!! I can’t wait to see what it looks like when its finished. Basements are so expensive to finish. My husband is handy as well and when we have work to do around the house he loves to jump in and save us a few dollars as well.

I am loving your inspiration board for the space. Muted and very sophisticated.

Oh man, remodels have a way of consuming everything and growing as they go. Sounds like a lot of work. Yay for being almost finished! Love your inspiration.
